December 30 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. Issued the following statement Monday mourning the passing of the 39th President of the United States of America, President Jimmy Carter: With profound sadness, I join the nation and the world in mourning the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a leader whose extraordinary legacy extended far beyond his presidency. President Carter was a man of unparalleled compassion, integrity, and service whose life was a shining example of humanity at its best. As the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter led with humility and courage, tirelessly promoting peace and justice. Yet, his post-presidency work solidified his place as one of the greatest humanitarians of our time. Through his leadership at the Carter Center, he championed human rights, eradicated diseases, and brought hope to countless communities worldwide. His unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others is a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. President Carter and his family’s visit to St. Croix during the 2009 Christmas holidays is a cherished memory for many in our community. Their time here reflected the warmth and hospitality that define the Virgin Islands, and we were honored to welcome them to our home. For those who had the privilege of meeting him, President Carter’s genuine kindness and respect for others left an indelible mark. Today, as we reflect on President Carter’s remarkable life and enduring contributions to humanity, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who were touched by his life’s work. May we honor his memory by continuing to uphold the values of compassion, service, and justice that he exemplified so beautifully. In his honor, all U.S. and Virgin Islands flags will be flown at half-staff for the next 30 days. May President Carter rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy live on in the hearts of all who strive to improve the world. ### TAGS No tags CATEGORIES Uncategorized Previous Next Comments are closed © 2026 Government of the United States Virgin Islands.
