University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees Resolution PURPOSE: To approve the implementation of a three-year pilot project on asynchronous distance learning (ADL) that will determine the approaches, fees and policies to be used in UVI ADL activities. WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands Strategic Plan 2000-2005 identifies asynchronous distance learning programs as part of its strategic thrusts to achieve revenue generation and program delivery goals, and WHEREAS, the national and international markets for ADL courses and programs have been expanding and indicating a notable potential for revenue generation by tertiary institutions, and WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has developed capacity in ADL technologies and acquired experience in the delivery of ADL courses, and WHEREAS, the University wishes to extend its exploration of markets in the Caribbean and the US mainland, and WHEREAS, the experiences of other universities point to the need for cautious and prudent development of ADL programs to avoid risking UVI resources, and WHEREAS, flexibility will …

University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees Resolution PURPOSE: To approve the implementation of a three-year pilot project on asynchronous distance learning (ADL) that will determine the approaches, fees and policies to be used in UVI ADL activities. WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands Strategic Plan 2000-2005 identifies asynchronous distance learning programs as part of its strategic thrusts to achieve revenue generation and program delivery goals, and WHEREAS, the national and international markets for ADL courses and programs have been expanding and indicating a notable potential for revenue generation by tertiary institutions, and WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has developed capacity in ADL technologies and acquired experience in the delivery of ADL courses, and WHEREAS, the University wishes to extend its exploration of markets in the Caribbean and the US mainland, and WHEREAS, the experiences of other universities point to the need for cautious and prudent development of ADL programs to avoid risking UVI resources, and WHEREAS, flexibility will be necessary to explore a variety of opportunities and approaches in ADL, and WHEREAS, the University has obtained indicators of feasibility and initial marketing approaches from a recently developed Business Plan, and WHEREAS, it is necessary and appropriate to evaluate initial ADL programs and policies, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees authorizes the President to undertake a three-year pilot and evaluation of asynchronous distance learning (ADL) to test and refine policies, fees and mechanisms for immediate implementation at UVI.
