British detachments on the Kuphrates are falling back and the garrison of Devanieh, situated on the right bank of the river, about ninety-five miles north-east of Bagdad, has. been cut off. Much agitation prevails in the region. Army garages in Bagdad are reported to be in flames when the despatch was filed. : Paris, Aug. 11th.—Paris is in a panic over a crime wave.
