A. E. STAKEMANN. ANOTHER VIRGIN ISLANDER PASS- ED AWAY. After au illness of two months and two days, Mrs. E. Crowd (born Geor~-} native of Fredeviksted, St. Croix, p. away at the home of her sister Miss Isabella E. George 118 West 135th St. on Tuesday April 25th. The funeral services which took place on Friday 28th inst, had the largest following of Virgin Islanders ever seen in this country. This was due to the fact that her sister Miss George is the most popular woman to be found residing in these United States that hail from our shores. Miss George is known as the one true, kind and constant friend, loyal and en- tirely devoted-to her own native people. She is always the first to be at the call of those in sickness and distress. At the funeral services there was no room in her apartment to accomodate the very large gathering. They filed in the hallway, on the stairs and cn the very streets. Mr. John Carrington of St. Croix and perhaps the only Virgia Islander who is an underiaker here, conduciel the funeral serv.ces. The Rev Dr Muller of St. Chrysos themum Protestant Episcopal Church preached the burial sermon and commit- te the body to the ground. ~— Little children manned the -estibule with flowers as the casket pasced out. Among the pallbearers were Mr. Harry George. Mr. James Williams and the Totten Bros. Mrs. Carl Kaaland who was a Miss” “thel Fonseca of St. Thomas, and who prior to her marriage iived many years with Miss George, ucted very admirably in her efforts to comfort the bercaved 4 and make the funeral arrancements ¢ sueeess. There were many tear dimmed epes when the mouvrners were eonducted to theirgarriages and the funeral cortege progf ded to the cemetery at Cedar Gr Long Island. &.rs. Crowd was the daughter of Mr & Mrs. Adam George of St. Croix. She is survived by ber son Rupert who ar- rived from his home in Detroit, Mieh., after she had passed away, also ihree brothers, and one sister, . According to the Copenhagen ‘'Ber- lingske Tidende’’, a young negro, Mr. (E.) Frenklin Frazier, who is at present studying at the University of Copen- hagen, delivered a leeture last everning in .the English Debating Club on the Race Problem in America and other coun:ries. It is said that Mr. Frazier's well delivered lecture was received with warm applause by the members of tha English Debating Club, who filled every inch in the lecture hall of the Kvindelie Laeseforening. Franeis, Principal of Frederiksted Graded Grammar School, breath her last in Frederiksted Municipal Hospital last - night which place she was taken too about three weeks ago and where every- thing possible was done to her. Mrs. Francis was born in Christiassted, St. Croix, lived in St. Thomas V. 1. the greatler part of her life and came to this town shortly after the promotion ofher son to the principalship of the Grammar School. Four sons and several other relatives, to whom we extend our sym- pathy, survive her.
