THE official notice of the opening of ® the October Term of the Dietrict Court of the Virgin Isiands of the Unie ted States, for the Municipality of St. Croix, at Frederiksted on the 18th, and at Christiansted on the 20th insts., res- pectively, is hereoy cancelled and wich- d*awn, owing to the severe illness of His Honor, Lucius J. Sommander Colby, U. 8. N., for sev eral months the Dispatehing Secretary of the Government ¢t St. Croix, leaves by the ‘‘GGuiana’’ tomorow on a short vaca- tion in the States, and it is hoped that he witl enjoy the triv and return much den- efitted from his holiday. During the time he has held office here, Mr. Colby has administered the duties thereof in a manper concerning which no compiaint ias been neard, and the popularity he enjoys testifies to his having made many friends in this town. The Commander is assured that a warm welcome awaits him when he comes back to St. Croix. An official notice in this issue cancels the earlier anncuncement of the open- ing of the Octobor term of the court at Frederiksted and Christiansted owing to the indisposition of Judge Malmin who, it is regretted to learn, was taken seriously ill at St. Thomas to the extent where at first the Governor purposed sending the :Vixen for the transportation of the judge’s family to his bedside. Happily, bowever, a favorable turn has developed in His Honor's condition, buc¢ his full recovery is not anticipated by the time first set for the opening of th> Court. hene: the notice referred to.
