While conditions are very poorly and the strictest economy is to be advised, the enlivenment brought about by Xmas rac.s is one we all look for, and with the understanding that the cius has some funds on hand, and that the cost of individual entrance is very small it is hoped that it will be found practicable to ecarry out the usual pro- oramme in which it is expected to list some horses from St. Thomas. The .contract for carrying the muadil on the land route from Christiansted to Frederiksted by Kingshiil for which the piesent contractor receives $1516.67 to peform 7 lound trips 2 week and addi- tional trips whrn necessary at a pro rata £ (1% 3 ¥ rate of pay, alsn the contract for carry ing the mail on the water route from Christiansted to Saint Thomas once a week aad back for which the contractor receives 81500 a year, expire on June 30, 1924, and bids for new -contracts will be received at th office of the Fourth Assis ant Postmaster General until Janvary 15 h next. Through some un:xplainabie ecirenm- stance, Mr. Hal: fell overboard and was not missed until the boat arrived at the landing place.
