THE admirable American custom of turning towards the closing of each year to Almighty God in wvraise and thanksgiving for the many blessings He has bestowed and the mercies He has shown should continue to be cbserved here. This year we have good cause. o be thankful and to be giad. The star of peace that appeared a year ago is rapiily becoming fixed in the firmament of the na- tions of the earth due tothe louystrides beinz taken by the treaty-making power towards the ratification of the ({reaty which loweed the curtain on the tragedy of the world war. The League of Na- tions, a guiding star to the harbor of perpatual peace, is looming up on ithe horizon. Thae coming o! peace lecads us to the dawring dt a new day for which we should be very grateful. With sa’e- ty in our humble homes from the pon- derous duties of war we are the betier able. to reav the crops which it has been our ¢ood fortune to have spared tous from the c¢ruel hands of draught and of hur- ricane. Afier turning away {irom the former duty in the military protection of our homes from the contemplafed ravages of th2 enemy we may contentedly enver upon a constructive period with the uvp- build:ng of institutions and municipali- ties. While giving thanks for the blessings bestcwed uron us during the vear, let us ever remcmber t» seek Diviae for- giveness and merey for all errors of act or purpose, and Divine guidance in the performance of the duties whieh remain to be performed, and to pray that in all we do we shall strengthen those ties of friendship and mutua! respect which are so essential in the erection of a munici- pal structure .that is to redound to the eredit of the builders.
