London, May 11th. —The ‘‘Times’’ un- derstands that the chartering of steam- ers to bring coal from the United States has subsided in the past two or three days, the slump being due probably to the length of time occupied in erossing and also to the limited facilities for un- loading steamers of the tonnaze re- quired. The amount on the way, or expected shortlv to be on the way, from the United States, according to the “Times’’, is unofficially estimated in freight and market circles as more than 100,000 tons. New York May 10th —The raw sugar market had a somewhat unsettled tone at the start yesterday which may have been due in part to the announcement made by those local refiners who were quoting a 6.50 c. basis for fine graula- ted at the close on Saturday or a reduc- tion of 10 points in their lists. There were indications of more in‘erest in full duty raws shown by those who are be- lieved to have export refined orders, and during the morning the American pur- chased 2,000 tons of San Domingo’s, in THE ST. London, May 10th. - The Australians in their first mateh in the London dis- trict today defeated Surrey by an in- nings and b 5 luns. They scored 357 ior 9 wickets and declared. Principal scores were Collins 162, Macartney 97. Surrey made 70 in their first innings in which Armstrong took 6 wickets for 39 and Macdonaid 4 for 29, Surrsy scored 223 runs in the second innings where Arm- gstronz took six for 889. The Austra- lians have excited some controversy by objec ing to playing more than six hours a day in country matches in which the time hitherto has been 63 hcurs. The first day ot their match they played 8 hours and Surrey protested.s The ques- tion has not yet been sertled. « - London, May 11tk. —l'he Premier an- nounced in the House of Commons this alrternoon Germany’s completed accept- ance of all the Aliied demands. His an- nounceme it was greeted with prolonged cheers. Ur. Sthamer handed the German reply to the Prime Minister at 11 a.m. and M. Lioy 1 George immediately telegraph- ed the news to all the Governments con- cerned. The text of the reply as deliver ered to the Prime Minister, in accordance with the decision of the Reichstag and with reference to the resolutions of the allied powers of May btn 1921, in the name of the new German government to declare the following: The German Gov- ernment is fully resolved, first, to carry out withnut reserve or conditions its obli- g tions as defined by the reparations ecorm- mittee. Second, to aceept and carry out without reserve or condition the guaran- tees in respect of these obligations pre- No, 115. port, at 3.50 c. cif, whichis 1/8 ¢. under the ¢ & f basis for Cuba’s as established by the sales reported by the committee at the end of last week. There was some interest in Porto Rier’s at 4.77 c. cif, but none seemed available on that basis. A much better feeling developed as the day advanced. S llers were re- ticent & although there was ecntinued buying interest in full duty sugars at 3.50c. cif, and Porto Ricos might have been sold @ 4.77 c. cif. there appeared to be none of either available. The im- provement seemed to turn on the better outlook for refined sugar, especially with reference to export business, as well as to the general expectation that the emer- gency tariff bill is likely to become law by the end of the next week, since its progress in the Senate met far less op- position than was anticipated and it is believed that it will nct be unduly de- layed in consequence. The Sugar Fi- nance Committee made no announce- ment, but was understood to be open to business on the basis of 4.87 ¢. ¢ &f. There were no further sales of incon- trolled raws reportea up to the close. Washington, May 12th.—The Senate late today passed the Emergency Tariff and Anti-dumping Bills retaining all amendments re~ommended by the Fi- nancial Committee, but rejecting those individually proposed.
