National Park on St. John and St. Thomas (under contract with the Department of Interior, National Park Service). First phase assessment of the Virgin Islands summer school pro gram which reaches over 1,000 students (under contract with the VI Government, Department of Education). Production of a 30-minute television documentary ("West Indian Wooden Cottage"), highlighting the unique design qualities of Vir gin Islands folk architecture (with grant support from the U. S. National Endowment for the Arts). Video tape cassette available on loan. U. S. Caribbean A three-month survey and program planning study on inshore marine resource development and training needs for Fiji, Western Samoa, Kiribati (Gilberts), Solomons, Vanuatu (Now Hebrides), Papua New Guinea, Tonga and the Cook Islands, on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme, CCOP/SOPAC Project Office in Suva, Fiji. A second-year survey/assessment of recreational fisheries catch in the U. S. Virgin Islands for NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce, as a sub-contract effort with Clapp and Mayne, Inc. of Puerto Rico. A planning study for the rehabilitation of the Dominica Botanical Gardens (demolished by a recent hurricane), carried out in coopera tion with Kew Gardens, England, and with the financial support of Mr. John Archbold. A conservation and technical assistance effort focussing on whales in the Eastern Caribbean and on the participation of St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Vincent in the July, 1981, meeting of the Interna tional Whaling Commission in London. A technical assistance and health services/equipment supply effort for the new Peebles Hospital in the British Virgin Islands (with primary financial support from Mr. Henry Jarecki). Seminars on island resource development and management at Cornell University and the East West Center in Hawaii.
