UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION Authorizing the approval of Fall Semester Certification and Graduation without Commencement Ceremony WHEREAS, the students who finish their coursework in the Summer or Fall semesters must wait until the following May to officially graduate from the University which places UVI students at a disadvantage in many respects; and WHEREAS, the students have been requesting that the University consider holding a second graduation for some time; and WHEREAS, a proposal has been made to allow UVI students to graduate in December following the Fall semester in addition to the May graduation following the Spring semester; and WHEREAS, the students who finish their prescribed coursework in Summer or Fall semester will be certified by the faculty in December; and WHEREAS, the December graduation will conclude without the formal commencement ceremony; and WHEREAS, the May graduation is the official commencement and the students who were conferred degrees in December may participate in the ceremony if they so choose, and indicate thus; an …

UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION Authorizing the approval of Fall Semester Certification and Graduation without Commencement Ceremony WHEREAS, the students who finish their coursework in the Summer or Fall semesters must wait until the following May to officially graduate from the University which places UVI students at a disadvantage in many respects; and WHEREAS, the students have been requesting that the University consider holding a second graduation for some time; and WHEREAS, a proposal has been made to allow UVI students to graduate in December following the Fall semester in addition to the May graduation following the Spring semester; and WHEREAS, the students who finish their prescribed coursework in Summer or Fall semester will be certified by the faculty in December; and WHEREAS, the December graduation will conclude without the formal commencement ceremony; and WHEREAS, the May graduation is the official commencement and the students who were conferred degrees in December may participate in the ceremony if they so choose, and indicate thus; and WHEREAS, the faculty at the May 11, 2007 faculty meeting during the Faculty Institute supported the proposal and the administration of the University supports and can implement a Fall semester certification and graduation without ceremony, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the conferring of degrees at the end of the Fall semester is hereby approved and that the President is authorized to take such action as is necessary to implement this resolution, and 2. That this resolution shall become effective June 16, 2007.
