Dublin, Sept. Ist. —An unofficial re- port on the Ballaghaderreen killing says that five policemen proceeding to the French Park Petty Session were attacked by sixty armed men. One constable and a civilian were shot dead, another con- stable danferously wounded while the reit made their escape. i Menagh. Ireland, Sept.-Ist. -Ex-Coun- ty Inspector Foley of the Royal Irish Constabulary was shot last evening and seriouslv woinded. His asailants were raiding his residence near here for arms. . London, Sept. Ist.—Govt. physicians today reversed their decision and de- clared that Mr. MacSweeny would live for a week or tem days longer.- The Govt. is providing the best medical ex- perts obtainable, and has declared offi- cially that Mr. MacSweeny will not be permitted to die firom complications if science can prevent it. This was his nine- teenth day without food. The condi- tion of Mr. MacSweeny tonight was without change except that he appear- eda trifle weaker. Hunger-strikers of Mount Joy Prison eapitulated and began eating th's afternoon. Twenty-two in Cork however, coatinued their volum- tary atarvation, aad several had col lapsed today. Washington, Sept. Ist.—Poland has :answered the admonition of the United States that the Polish armies halt at the ethncgraphical boundary of Poland with the statement that the strategic considerations must govern Poland’s course., The reply was delivered yes- terday by Prince ' '.udormirski, Polish Minister, and followed an informal an- swer last week .transmitted through the UJ. Ist.—Mr. MacSweeney, Lord Mayor of Cork, suffered a change for the worse last night in Brixton pri- son in this eity where he is confined. l.ate morning editions of the papers say he is sinking rapidly. Complete numbness of the limbs has developed and he no longer speaks through weak- ness. Lo~d Stamfordham, Private See- retary to the King, has replied to a letter from Mr. Bottomley, M.P., urging the re- lease of Mr. Mac Sweeney. He toid him that éven if the King favored the release of the Lord Mayor of Cork it could be effected only by the Sovereign’s personal action in the face of the advice of His Min- isters ‘vith the presumable result that they would resign. Ist.—The Incogni- to Cricket Team from England won its opening match today .when it defeated the Frankfort eleven here by an innings and 21. runs. The visitors scored 282 runs in the first innings.
