117TH CONGRESS 2D SESSION H. R. 7496 AN ACT To direct the Secretary of the Interior to install a plaque at the peak of Ram Head in the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, United States Virgin Islands, to com- memorate the slave rebellion that began on St. John in 1733. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 2 •HR 7496 EH SECTION 1. INSTALLATION OF PLAQUE COMMEMORATING 1 SLAVE REBELLION ON ST. JOHN. 2 (a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 1 year after the 3 date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the 4 Interior shall install, in an appropriate location in the area 5 of the Ram Head trail at the peak of Ram Head in the 6 Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, United States 7 Virgin Islands, a suitable plaque to commemorate the 8 slave rebellion that began on St. John on November 23, 9 1733. 10 (b) CONTENTS OF PLAQUE.—The plaque installed 11 under subsection (a) shall include information regarding— 12 (1) important facts about the slave rebellion 13 that began on St. …

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 2 •HR 7496 EH SECTION 1. INSTALLATION OF PLAQUE COMMEMORATING 1 SLAVE REBELLION ON ST. JOHN. 2 (a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 1 year after the 3 date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the 4 Interior shall install, in an appropriate location in the area 5 of the Ram Head trail at the peak of Ram Head in the 6 Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, United States 7 Virgin Islands, a suitable plaque to commemorate the 8 slave rebellion that began on St. John on November 23, 9 1733. 10 (b) CONTENTS OF PLAQUE.—The plaque installed 11 under subsection (a) shall include information regarding— 12 (1) important facts about the slave rebellion 13 that began on St. John in 1733; 14 (2) the collective suicide that occurred during 15 the slave rebellion in the vicinity of Ram Head on 16 St. John in 1734; and 17 3 •HR 7496 EH (3) the significance of the slave rebellion to the 1 history of St. John, the United States Virgin Is- 2 lands, and the United States. 3 Passed the House of Representatives December 12, 2022.
