Francis, Jr. PRE-OATH OF OFFICE ECUMENICAL SERVICE Published: Jan 12, 2025 Search for: ST. JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands — Members of the 35th Legislature and Senators-Elect of the 36th Legislature of the Virgin Islands attended the Pre-Oath of Office Ecumenical Service held at the Cruz Bay Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The service marked a historic and reflective moment as legislators gathered in faith and unity to prepare for the responsibilities of the upcoming 36 th Legislature. Senate President of the 35 th Legislature Novelle E. Francis Jr. delivered the opening remarks, setting the tone with a message of shared purpose and commitment to public service. He underscored the importance of leadership rooted in integrity and action, stating, “Today marks the dawn of a new chapter in our service to the people of the Virgin Islands—a chapter that carries the weight of responsibility and the promise of progress. Together, we have been entrusted with the aspirations and dreams of those we represent, and it is our solemn duty to fulfill that trust with courage, integrity, and unwavering purpose.” Francis reminded members of the profound importance of their duty as they prepare to take the official oath of office. “Our actions must be guided by leadership, vision, and a relentless drive to make meaningful progress. Let us uphold the Constitution and honor the collective trust placed in us by working with passion, wisdom, and unity to uplift the Virgin Islands and its people.” Senate President-Elect of the 36 th Legislature Milton Potter offered heartfelt closing remarks, urging reflection with the words, “May the light of unity guide the members of the 36th Legislature. Leaders have the privilege to serve and improve the quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands.” The service included preaching, scripture readings, musical renditions, praise dancing, and prayers for the children and the community, creating a spiritually enriching experience. The official Swearing-In Ceremony will take place at 10:00 AM in Emancipation Garden on St. Thomas, followed by the organization of the 36th Legislature at the Capitol Building.
