Wahington, Sept. 29th.—Viscount Grey, who arrived on Saturday from New York. »xpe<ts to present his cred- entigls to President Wilson next week, Buffalo, N. Y., Sept. 29th. —The soft coal operators of the Central Competi- tive field today submitted to the joint conference of perators and miners their reply (o the demand of the men for a 60 per cent increase in wages and shorter working hours. Before the session open- ed there was much speculation as to the Aattitu’de the operators would take-on what has been called the most revolu‘ion- ary demands in the histery of the indus- try, involving an increase in pay for ap- proximately four hundred thousand men. The operators refuse to discuss their at- titude befo e the session or to discuss reports that their reply would be a fiat refusal to grant the demands of the mi- ners. : Paris, Sept. 29th.—A resolution de- manding that Fiume be made an Itulian city has been passed by the Italian Cham- ber of Depu:ies, according to information recei- ed by the Italian delega.ion. Rome, Sept. 29th.—The debate in the Chamber ot Deputies was interrupted by a free fight .which lasted ten minutes and in which about one hundred Deputies participated. The copinion is expressed in some quarters that the Cabinet, as a result of the riotous incident, may decide to resign ra her than plunge the country into a strugzle during the general elec- tion. It is asserted the fight in the Chamber indicates what would occur in the country. 'The figures for the vote of confidence giten the Cabinet were 206 and 148.
