UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve the extension of the Associate of Arts in Inclusive Early Childhood Education program to accommodate another cohort of at least thirty students. WHEREAS. the University of the Virgin Islands was awarded a grant by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to train a cohort of Early Childhood Education teachers, and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees at its June 1, 1996 meeting approved a new degree program leading to an Associate of Arts Degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education to be offered to a single cohort of students after which the program would be terminated, and WHEREAS. the University of the Virgin Islands is in the process of training a cohort of thirty-four Virgin Islanders in Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and WHEREAS. this cohort of students is near completion of the professional training which is made up of eleven courses (33 credits), and WHEREAS, most of the trainees are currently working in preschool programs and daycare centers in the Territory, and WHEREAS. …

UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve the extension of the Associate of Arts in Inclusive Early Childhood Education program to accommodate another cohort of at least thirty students. WHEREAS. the University of the Virgin Islands was awarded a grant by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to train a cohort of Early Childhood Education teachers, and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees at its June 1, 1996 meeting approved a new degree program leading to an Associate of Arts Degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education to be offered to a single cohort of students after which the program would be terminated, and WHEREAS. the University of the Virgin Islands is in the process of training a cohort of thirty-four Virgin Islanders in Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and WHEREAS. this cohort of students is near completion of the professional training which is made up of eleven courses (33 credits), and WHEREAS, most of the trainees are currently working in preschool programs and daycare centers in the Territory, and WHEREAS. the V. I. Department of Human Services who oversees these preschool programs and daycare centers is very pleased by the positive changes that have been noticed among individuals who are participating in this special training, and WHEREAS. the V. I. Department of Human Services is interested in having the University extend this program to start another cohort and that it is willing to give scholarships to fifteen students from each district by paying tuition and fees for the professional courses only, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approve the extension of the Associate of Arts in Inclusive Early Childhood Education program to accommodate another cohort of at least thirty students. CERTIFICATION The undersigned does hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of the resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on March 6, 1999 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
