Dayton, Ohio, Oct. 6th. —The Senate Committee investigating campaign funds resumed hearings here today. They plan to investigate the contributioas to the campaign tund of Governor Cox iln his race for the Governorshis in 1918. Washington, Oet. 6th.—Secretary of State (Joiby says that the mission of Rear Admiral Knapp to Haiti, for the adjustment of relations incident to the American occupation, was very success- ful. He says that the Haitien authori- ties received the Admiral very cordiaily and that all friction was soon ended. New Orleans, Oct. Tth. - Uoctor Juho Bianchi, the newly appointed Guatemalan Minister to the United States, has ar- rived here enrouteto Washington, He reports the eonditicns in Gualemaia as greatly improved, while business devel- opment surpasses expectations. Washington, Oect. 7th. —The Shipping Board today made the rhird attempt to dispose of its wooden fleet, of more than 1,000,000 tons. Bids were opened for the purchase of 285 vessels. Mobile, Ala., Oct. 7th.—The Shipping Board is about to sell the Government cement shipbuilding plant here at yublic auction. It is the largest plant of the kind in the world and was constructed during the war. i London. Qct. 6th.——Madrid reports a general strike throuyghout Portugal. it is apparently of a revolutionary charac- ter. All raiiroad employeas have guit work and mai! and other communications are at a stand-still. Helsingtors, Oct. 6tn. -{he Russians and Fins at the Dorpat conterence have agreed upon terms of peace.
