Finding other addresses Finding addresses can be an art. There is no universal Email addressing system or directory. The best way to find an address is to read it in the From section of a message you have received. You can ask a person for their address. At UVI, look up an addresses (and other information) by using the Ph option under the Windows menu of Eudora. WhoWhere (http://www.whowhere.com/) is a particularly good Internet Email address finder. Sending messages and/or files (attachments) Select New Message from the Message menu or [N]. Carefully type your Email address(es) in the To: area. Multiple addresses should be separated by commas. Press tab or use the mouse to move to the Subject: area. Type a short, descriptive subject heading. Like the title of a paper or book, it should explain the intent of your message. Use CC or BCC if you wish. BCC is Blind Carbon Copy (other recipients do not see BCC addresses). You may optionally send files be using selecting the Attach Document option from the “Message” menu while in the attach document area. The default format at UVI is MIME. If possible, request this format when receiving files. Move to the message body area and either type your message or copy and paste it from a word processor (all formatting is lost). When you are ready to send, select Queue or Send from the Message menu. (Which option you see depends on how your preferences have been set). Receiving messages or files Get new mail with the Check Mail under the File Menu. Double click on message(s) that you want to read. If your message has a file attached, you will be asked where you want to save the file. Responding to a message There are four response options: Reply: Original message is commented (>) and addressed to original recipients. Send address is yours. Forward: Original message is commented and To: area is blank. Send address is yours. Redirect: Original message is unchanged and original sender is included in the send address area. Send Again: original message is unchanged, send address is yours. In all cases, be sure to check the To: area and erase unnecessary addresses. Check and correct the Subject: area. Remove unnecessary parts of the original message body by highlighting and pressing the delete key. Type your response. When you are done, send the message. Deleting old messages Select the message(s) and press the delete key. Mailboxes Email is received in your IN mailbox. Email sent is in your OUT mailbox. Create new Mailboxes to organize your messages by using the New command under the Mailbox menu and transfer messages between mailboxes by selecting the message and using the Transfer menu. Address Book Eudora maintains an Address book of frequently used names and addresses. Names may contain multiple addresses (i.e. Business Division). The “XXXXX TO” options under the Message menu look to the Address Book. Edit your Address book by opening it under the Windows menu. Settings The settings area is an option under the Special menu. If your mail is working, your settings need not be changed have been set for you.
