June 28, 2024 2024 - 08 DPW Continues Major Road Work in St. Croix U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS—As roadwork in St. Croix continues, the Department of Public Works is announcing the start of a new project: the Northside Road Rehabilitation Project. DPW Contractor—Marco St. Croix, Inc.—began resurfacing the roadway from One Love Gas Station in La Grande Princesse to the bottom of Morning Star Hill. Traffic is currently being re-routed through West St. John Road. The Department is also preparing to pave from the Kingshill Post Office in Estate La Reine to the Vicinity of the La Reine Chicken Shack. Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the Queen Mary Highway Road Repairs project is nearing completion. DPW contractor—Grace Civil, LLC—is currently striping the repaved sections of the roadway. These sections include the Sunny Isle signal light intersection, Sunny Isle to Barren Spot, and Sunny Isle to Ricardo Richards/Sunny Acres. June 28, 2024 2024 - 08 DPW Continues Major Road Work in St. Croix U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS—As roadwork in St. Croix continues, the Department of Public Works is announcing the start of a new project: the Northside Road Rehabilitation Project. DPW Contractor—Marco St. Croix, Inc.—began resurfacing the roadway from One Love Gas Station in La Grande Princesse to the bottom of Morning Star Hill. Traffic is currently being re-routed through West St. John Road. The Department is also preparing to pave from the Kingshill Post Office in Estate La Reine to the Vicinity of the La Reine Chicken Shack. Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the Queen Mary Highway Road Repairs project is nearing completion. DPW contractor—Grace Civil, LLC—is currently striping the repaved sections of the roadway. Phase 1 of the Downtown Christiansted Road Repairs project, performed by VI Paving, has also made significant strides. The roads being paved for this project are Queen Street, Hill Street, East Street, Prince Street, and Market Street. Currently, the southern portion of those roads—particularly Queen Street, Hill Street, and East Street—has been completely repaired. Weather permitting, this project has an estimated completion date of August 2024. Phase 2 will include New Street, West Street, Smith Street, Strand Street, Queen Cross Street, and King Street. The Ethel McIntosh Memorial Drive, also known as Mahogany Road, and Airport Road projects are also coming to fruition. Both projects are currently in the solicitation phase, and awards are anticipated in the next thirty (30) days. “We are thrilled to see these projects realized as our major thoroughfares need attention,“ said DPW Commissioner Derek Gabriel. “Our commitment is to keep this momentum territory-wide while we have the resources available.” The department urges motorists to follow all safety controls and directives from on-site flaggers throughout this reconstruction period.
