University of the Virgin Islands Resolution of the Board of Trustees To Grant President Emeritus Status to Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster WHEREAS, Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster served the University of the Virgin Islands (“the University”), and its predecessor institution, the College of the Virgin Islands, as an Assistant Professor, Professor, Chair of the Division of Science and Math, Vice President for Research and Public Service, and Senior Vice President and Provost successively and was thereafter appointed President of the University by the Board of Trustees, effective on August 1, 2002; and WHEREAS, Dr. Ragster served as President of the University from August of 2002 through July of 2009 and then stepped down from that position to return to the faculty before retiring from the University on July 31, 2012; and WHEREAS, among the University’s accomplishments during Dr. Ragster’s leadership of the institution was the re- accreditation of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Inc., the reaffirmation of the accreditation of the University by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the launching of the Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (CELL) unit, the establishment of the annual Dr. Alfred O. Heath Distinguished Lecture Series, the renovation and remodeling of an old building on the St. Thomas Campus into the Administration & Conference Center, the construction of the Northwest Wing on the St. Croix Campus and its later expansion to provide classrooms and the Great Hall, the design, funding and commencement of construction of the Wellness Center on the St. Thomas Campus, the establishment of the Senior Reserve Officers Training Corps Program to increase the enrollment of male students, and the establishment of the Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics for Secondary Teachers to improve the skills of math teachers in the V.I. public school system; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that, in recognition of and gratitude for her service as the President of the University for seven (7) years, Dr. Ragster be granted the status of President Emeritus; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that, in recognition of her service to the University as its fourth President and first female President, Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster is hereby granted the status of President Emeritus with all its rights, privileges and responsibilities pertaining thereto. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at a meeting on October 27, 2012, as recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
