London, Aug. 31st.—The terms of an agreement providing for cooperation acainst he Bolshevists reached by Gen- eral Wrangel and the leaders of the Astrakan Cossacks are published this morning by the Times. By this agree-- ment full indepeudence is guaranteed those states and General Wrangel takes over the controlof all other armed forcas. {ondon, Aug. 31lst.—The Daily Mail says: ‘‘The coa! strike threat is already paralyzing and stopping foreign orders. Many manufacturers with only small stocks of coal on hand, have decided to shut down as soon as the strike is an- nounced. The Yorkshire and Notting- hamshire miners are voting strongly against a strike.”’ Washington, Aug. 31st.—Almost com- plete’ stoppage of coal exports from Great - Britain has resulted from the Government’s anticipation ofa miners’ strike, according to a cable to the De- partment of Commerce today from Mr. Hollis, the Consul General at London. An unusual shortage of bunker coal exists. the Consul reported, and as a re- cult 75 vessels are tied up in British ports. Considerable employment amon dock workers also was reported. Montreal, Aug. 31st.—The ‘'‘Montreal Star’’ tonight publishes the following despatch from Worcester, England: ““The first death resulting from a hun- ger strike in an English Jail, occurred here today, when Karl Dunwell suc- cumbed as er going without food for five days. Ottawa Aug. 31Ist. -Sir Auckland Ged- des, British Ambassador at Washington, arrived in Ottawa this evening. Sir Auckland is a wguest at Government House. " During his stay here Sir Auck- land will confer with the Canadian Gov- ernment in regard to the appointment of a Canadian Minister at Washington, an appropriation fo° which was passed by Parliament last session. On Thursday he will address the Canadian Bar Asso- ciation at luncheon. Polish troops oecupied August.owo, west of Grodno, where they were enthu- siastically received by the population. Lithuanian detachments encountered by Polish troops have been most friendly. London, Aug. 2lst.— Anti-Bolshevik forces landed in Kuban, east of the Sea of Azof, by General Wrangel, have been annihilated, according to a statement ‘made last night by Mr. Kameneff, head of the Bolshevik Trade Delegation here. This statement was based on a telegram which came from Moscow earlier in the afternoon. ‘‘After defeating Wrangel’s forces, Soviet troops cut their communi- cations, surrounded them, and by a night raid, destroyed their headquarters. In the northern part of Taurida, General Wrangel’s army is completely beaten. He now hoids the Crimea.”’ .- 206 NOTICE.
