And now aboard for Frederiksted or West End as it is so familiarly called, the com- mercial town of the island, to take ship upon destined voyages, we pussed up King's Street in a long line of 40 automobiles and thus passing out of town as we entered un'il we meet a cross road where we entered the town ano there instead of turning to the left the pilot keeps siraight ahead taking the old miin line, a broad well buiit macadam road to the West aud which after a shert distance we passed the public institu sons upen our right pleasantly situated about one hundred yards from the roal and quio near the quiet waters-of the harbor. The great house, a fine residence, is at present rented and occupied by the Chietf Medieal Officer of the island. Today with more modern equipment two stalks ‘ake their place supplyingz ail necessary drait for a much increased steam plant for the factory. The Factory was originally buiit and largely financed at the instance by the Government as introduc- irg a modern method of sugar manufacture, to purchase and grind the canes from a jarge acreage originally extended far into Frederiksted District by the system of grind- i ¢ stations already wentioned. But it was not very pooular with the Planters for various reasons and hard to exp'ain within the il.nits of this beisf tale of nur journey.
