CCORDING to rules of Road Ordin- A ance, the annual repair:of the Public roads begin on Ist October, and are to be completed by 31st December. The inspection to tske place sometime early in January. Last year the inspec- tion was deferred until Ist Mareh, and due to recent events, notably the strike, it °'s perhaps only reasonable that the same time be given to complete re- pairs. It must be admitted that much has been conceded the Road-holders, and much grace given; but it is also evident that the work of repairs is in many cases, absolutely neglected. Some have done their duty, others seem to shirk it. For the benefit of those who may never have read the Road Ordinance, and for those who have read and foreotten, the following paragraphs are quoted: § 24. Any holder of a road allotment, who is found, at the annual inspection in the month of January, to have omitted to complete the road-work incumbent on him, or to have performed it in an unsat- isfactory manner, :s liable to a fine not exceeding SSO. ¢ § 2b Any holder of a road allotment who fails to comply with an order {rom the properly qualified Officer »r authority, at any time soever in the ysar, concerning the repairing of his-road-allotment or anything belonging thereto, is liable to a fine not exceeding $25. The same fine shall be adjudged against any person omitting to plant the bound-posts men- tioned in § 12. The exact time of inspection will be published later.
