Berry and Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg: Co-Sponsored by: Senator Violet Anne Golden oh COON OUAAND = WHEREAS, Julian Alexis “The Hawk” Jackson was born on St. Thomas on September 12, 1960 to John and Rosa Jackson; and WHEREAS, Julian attended the Michael J. Kirwan Terrace Elementary School, the Wayne Aspinall (now Addelita Cancryn) Junior High School and the Charlotte Amalie High School; and WHEREAS, Julian Jackson began his boxing career at the age of fourteen (14) under the guidance of the late Wilhelm “Willie” George; and ON Oa PWN DO etn ace NO (80) Sf NOPE (ND) [Noy er a er en OnFrWNBA OHO AN OA HKWBNH =| 0 0 i) WHEREAS, Julian went on to become a four-time Boxing World Champion. He held the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental of Americas Title from 1984 through 1986, the WBA Junior Middleweight Title in 1987, the World Boxing Council (WBC) Middleweight Title from 1990 through 1992, and again in 1995; and WHEREAS, at one point during his career, Julian Jackson had the highest knockout percentage of any active champion at 93.1 %. His knockout percentage exceeded that of George Foreman, Mike Tyson and Rocky Marciano. Julian's punching power exceeded other fighters in his weight class including Nigel Benn, “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler and Stanley Ketchel; and WHEREAS, Julian was known as one of the hardest hitting fighters the sport of boxing has ever seen. He compiled a record of 55 wins, 6 losses with 49 knockouts; and WHEREAS, in 1992, Jackson was selected to be the Diamond Jubilee Ambassador by the Government of the Virgin Islands, and he also represented the United States Virgin Islands in fights in many parts of the world including Spain, Mexico, California, New York, Equador and Florida; and WHEREAS, Julian appeared in the centerfold of Sports Illustrated Magazine, made special appearances at schools, churches, sports conventions and has hosted many fights at Boulder Station. He also did promotions for Toyota and Lucozade; and WHEREAS, Julian has been nominated for induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame, one year after his retirement; and WHEREAS, Julian Jackson is married to Debra Jackson and has six (6) children and resides in Las Vegas, Nevada; and ON OA AWBHND = WHEREAS, he is enrolled in a Practical Theology course and is studying to be an ordained minister. His goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of all individuals; Now, Therefore, BE IT ENACTED by the Legislature of the United States Virgin Islands: SECTION 1. (a) The Medal of Honor shall be conferred on Julian Alexis “The Hawk” Jackson for his many outstanding accomplishments in boxing and for being a role model for youth of the U. S. Virgin Islands to emulate. (b) The President of the Legislature, or his designee, shall present to Julian Alexis Jackson the Virgin Islands Medal of Honor, in recognition and appreciation of his contributions, at an appropriate ceremony held for that purpose.
