UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION FACULTY POLICY MANUAL Purpose: To approve the October 10, 2008 Faculty Policy Manual which includes sections previously approved by the Board of Trustees at its June 14, 2008 meeting and sections which have been ratified by the faculty and approved by the administration, or recommended by the Academic, Research and Student Affairs (ARSA) Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University since June 14, 2008. WHEREAS, both the University and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education have agreed on the importance of a UVI Faculty Policy Manual that addresses academic governance and policy for faculty at the University of the Virgin Islands; and WHEREAS, on March 15, 2008 and June 14, 2008 the Board of Trustees approved all sections of the Faculty Policy Manual with the exception of the Process for Tenure, Professional Development Plans for Tenured Faculty, Provisions of Summer Insurance and the Grievance and Complaint Procedure; and WHEREAS, the faculty and the administration of the University have agreed mutually on the Process for Tenure and the Professional Development Plans for Tenured Faculty of the Faculty Policy Manual; and WHEREAS, the faculty and the administration of the University have agreed mutually on the Provisions of Summer Insurance of the Faculty Policy Manual; and WHEREAS, the faculty and the administration of the University have agreed mutually on the Grievance and Complaint Procedure of the Faculty Policy Manual; and WHEREAS, on October 10, 2008 the ARSA Committee of the Board of Trustees amended and adopted Article 5.x.b.7., Tenure Procedures and Critical Dates; Article 5.xvi.a, Faculty Professional Development Plans for Tenured Faculty; Article 5.xvi.d, Implementation of Professional Development Plans for Tenured Faculty; Article 6.11.b, Other Provisions; Article 8.iii, Suspensions ; Article 8.v.b, Dismissal Procedures; Article 9.i, Definitions; Article 9.ii, General Provisions; Article 9.iv, Filing Procedures; Article 9.v, Hearing Procedures; and WHEREAS, the ARSA Committee of the Board of Trustees has presented the proposed revisions to the Faculty Policy Manual, as outlined above, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT: I, The following Sections of the Faculty Policy Manual, on which there has been mutual agreement between the faculty and the administration of the University, as amended by the ARSA Committee, are hereby approved: a. The Process for Tenure and Professional Development Plans for Tenured Faculty of the Faculty Policy Manual; b. The Provisions of Summer Insurance of the Faculty Policy Manual; c. The Grievance and Complaint Procedure of the Faculty Policy Manual; z= That the President is authorized to publish a 2008 Faculty Policy Manual, consistent with the foregoing, and to take such other action as may be necessary to implement this Resolution. 3. This Resolution shall become effective November 1, 2008. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands and adopted at its meeting on Saturday, November 1, 2008, as recorded in the Minutes of the said meeting.
