City, for the group’s contribution to the music industry, designating September 27, 2016 as “R. City Day”, amending title 1 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 7, adding section 103a to establish the official Key to the Virgin Islands a--D)--= WHEREAS, Theron and Timothy Thomas of the musical group R. City were born on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands; and WHEREAS, they grew up in Oswald Harris Court Projects and graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School; and WHEREAS, as children, the duo were backup dancers for a local all-girl group and performed under the name 2Ekwip; and WHEREAS, the duo has also contributed to numerous Grammy-nominated albums, including Grammy award winner Rihanna’s “Unapologetic” which won best urban contemporary album; and WHEREAS, the duo contributed to Grammy award winner, Jennifer Hudson’s self-titled album, which won Best R&B Album; and WHEREAS, in 2006 the duo sold their first song, “The Rain”, which appeared on Grammy awar …
