R via St Thomas {rom r'rederiksted yesterday. Our popular Dr Canegata was hastily summoned to Butcher Q. C. Hewitt early last Saturday morning and reached the bedside with all speed, but the patient was unfortunately already beyond human aid. There will be a meeting of the Colonial Council today, the agenda of which is chiefly the examination of patents of, election and appointment of new iwem- bers, two of whum have not previously occupied seats in the Council, and the election or officers for the Counril and the cifferent public eommissions. The assembly wiil sit at least one member short through the resignation of elected member for Frederiksted Country Dis- try G. B. Fleming. The Holy Cross (R. C.) Chureh ob- served its yearly Corpus Christi festi- val yesterday with "the customary im- pressive and picturesque procession throuzh the town. The Native Brass Band was in attendance, but as many persons did pot march as is usual. A light shower interrupted the proccssion at tha corner of our office but other- wise Tair weather prevailed, The Native Brass Band enlivcned the afternoon vesterday with a prpuiar con- cert in the bandstand which was much aporeciated espacially by thz children for whom it was a great treat. Blackwood from Est. Annaly-to the Luth<ran Church, and that of Mr. O. C. Hewiu irom the residence in Quzen S to the Roman Catholic Churen, took place in Frederik- sted yesterday morning and were both largely attended. Rev. Gustave K. Hus, new incumbent of the Lutheran Parish this town, arrived on Saturday, somewhat earlier than ex- pected, and conducted the morning se:- vice yesterday. At the conclusion of his sermon a letter of introductoin was read by the elerk, Mr. Alexander Creagh and a few words of welcome on behalf of the congregation switably acknowleged by KRev. Huts. Rev.
