ACTNO. 6666 BILL NO. 25-0189 TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2004 To name the Visitors’ Bureau at the West Indian Company Dock “The John E. McCleverty Visitors’ Bureau” ---0--- WHEREAS, Mr. John McCleverty has had a lifelong love affair with music, dating back to his early days -n Savan where he was fascinated by the musical ability of his neighbor, Alwyn “Lad” Richards, who played the clarinet and saxophone; and WHEREAS, Mr. McCleverty worked after school as a waiter at The Grand Hotel, saved his money, and bought his first musical instrument, a clarinet, from Sears Roebuck and Company for $24.95; and WHEREAS, Mr. McCleverty took lessons from both Lad Richards and Theodore Maduro and later played with Ralph Hodge; and WHEREAS, Mr. McCleverty formed his first musical group with Roy Wallace, “The Famous Conjunto Tropical,” playing around St. Thomas and St. Croix for a few years before moving to New York City and forming the Johnny McCleverty Calypso Band; and WHEREAS, Mr. …
