BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Online Degrees Program Tuition Rates Increase and Faculty Compensation Increases Resolution approving the increases in the Online Degrees Program Tuition Rates and Faculty Compensation Rates WHEREAS, on December 13, 2017, the University of the Virgin Islands’ Board of Trustees approved and authorized several online degrees; and WHEREAS, the original budget model which included tuition rates and faculty compensation was based on an agreement with the Level Playing Field as approved by the Board of Trustees; and WHEREAS, the agreement with the Level Playing Field was terminated and the University continued the Online Degrees program utilizing the tuition rates and faculty compensation contained in the agreement with Level Playing Field; and WHEREAS, after careful review of the tuition rates, which equated that of tuition rates for on-the- ground courses, University’s Administration determined that the tuition rates and faculty compensation were not appropriately aligned with the online degrees market; and WHEREAS, the Administration is recommending an increase in the tuition rates and institution of fees for the Online Degrees program as noted in Exhibit A; and WHEREAS, the Administration is recommending an increase in the compensation for faculty working in Online Degrees program as noted in Exhibit B; and WHEREAS, at the June 3, 2021 meeting of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Committee deferred the Administration’s recommendation to the Board of Trustees for consideration and action. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: A. That, for the purpose of carrying out the Online Degrees Program, the increases in tuition rates, implementation of applicable fees and increases in faculty compensation proposed by the Administration, a copy of which is incorporated into this resolution as Exhibit “A” and as Exhibit “B”, are hereby approved, effective July 1, 2021. B. That the President, Provost and Vice-President for Administration and Finance are authorized to take such actions as are necessary and proper to implement this resolution.
