London, July 22nd. —Poland has been told to apply to "he Russian Govt. for an armistice in crder to test the sincerity of the Soviet statements that Russia is will- ing to make peace with Poland. Dublin, July 22nd. —Capt. Airy of the infantry was shot from ambush on Tues- day nigh: and died last evening as a re- sult of his wounds. Two of his sol- diers who were with him were scriousiy wounded at the time of the shooting. Ottawa, July 23rd.—Action by the Department of Trade and Commerce in regard to the increased rates between Halifax and St. Jonn and West Indian ports has been defeated pending the return to Ottawa of Sir George Foster, Minister of Trade and Commerce. Some- time ago the Department had an appli- cation from the Steamship Companies coneerned asking for aa increase of ten per ceat in the rates between points on this route. London July 24th.—The House of Lords by a vote of 129 to 86 car- ried Viscount Finlay’s motion deplor- ing the conduct’ of the Govt. in the case of General Dyer, dismisged from the army for ordaring the shooting down of natives during the Amritsar riots. The Morring Post Tund for General Dyer now reaches £60,000. Paris, July 25th.—The ‘‘Temps’’ to- day says that the Turkish Peace Treaty probably will be sigred on Thursday next. . Trinidad, July 24th.- It is officially announced that the Royal Mail Transat- lantic Service will be susperded indefi nitely after the sailing of the ‘‘Arzila” from KEngland on July 21st.
