All persons having claims against MALCOLM OGAARD, deceased, are hereby required to present their claims, with proper vouchers, within six months trom the date of this first publication, namely Jun 2 14th, 1924, to the under- stgned administrator, or his attorney at No. 17 Church Street in Christiansted, St. Croix. We are in receipt of an anonymous communitation in whi_ b the writer re- presenting him or herself to be one of the parties affeeted, brings out the loss and suffering experienced as a result of the curtarlment of the extra month’s pen- sion whiech used to be paid out to the morthly pensioners for July 4th and Christmas. It is pointed out that the custom of payving an extramonth’s allow- ance was in effect through the administra- tinn of all the former American Govern- ors, from Governor Qliver’s time to Gov- ernor Hough’s, It is claimed that many old recipients of this gratuity came all the way from distant estates in the mid die of the island only tolearn with disap- pointment on arrival at the fort that no piyments would be made There is little rnecess'ty for us totry to prove that these poor people are in want practically the whole year roand and that the few cents they got on the helilay octeasions were a veritable godsend which wus procadly ST (101 2V all the most of them could depend on to help zladden their hearts at a time when ol¢ more favorab'y situated brothers and sisters are able to enjoy the gzcod things of the worid and are liable to forget those who have little or nothing to chear them along and oftimes not even enough to keer body and soual togeiher. We would, therefore, bring this matter to the notice of those in authority with the hope that it will be found possible to re- sume the old charitable custorn on the next forthcoming oceasion. As far as the amount itself invelved is concerned it would not be very great, and mindiul of the ohject it will doubtiess be fonund available somewhers.
