New Port News, Va., Jany. 4th. —Two men who identified themselves as Peter MacSweeney, brother of the late Lord Mayor of Cork, and Danicl O’Callahan, present Lord Mayor of Cork, arrived at New Orleans tonigh: as stowaways on the U. S. S. West Cannon from an Irish port. MaeSweeney carried'a passport vised by a Unitad States Consul. Imme- diately upon the arrival of the West Can- non, immigration authorities discovered the two men, and disregarding the claims of their identy had them placed in jail, pending investigation. Upon showing his passport MueSweeney was released, and the Lord Mayor was freed as soon as autnorities arrived. According to Mae Sweeney, O’Caliahan is in (uis councry at the invitation of the commitiee of one hundred at Washington. investigating the Irisn situation O’Callaban is vnder guard furnished by immigration officials.
