The demand for raw sugar contin- ues to be very limited and offerings are not being pressed for sale particularly for shipment, although sugars could un- dou?tedly be had at iast prices. Geneva, Nov. 18th.—It was announ- nced by the League of Nations today that Spain and Great Britain, as wzli as France and Belgium, would send treops to Vilna to maintain order during the plebiscite to be beld to determine the po- litical rfate of that city as between the Lithuanians and Poles. Sir George Fos- . ter was elected as vice-president of the League of Nations on the first ballot, it ~vas announced -by President Hymaaus, this afternoon. Dr. Fridtjof Nansen of Norway, took the floor to report to the Assembly the work done in connection with the priconers of war. St. Thomas News. Owing to the resignation thru, ill health, of Rev. Joseph, of St. George’s, Tortola, Rev. Pilgrim has been appointed to takejcharge offthat parish. The Rev- erend gentlemap leaves this afternoon for Tortola, and will probably be away from St. Thomas for a week or two.—St. Thomas Mail Notes, Nov. 18th. . Since Monday evening, the populace are baing treated at evenings to a unique form of entertainment on the streets in the form of a ‘‘travelling ticket wagon”’ for the pugpose of selling tickets for the ‘Naval Circus entertainment to be held ‘during Thanksgiving week, and accom- panied by a couple of clowns and a musi- cal band. This ‘‘moving ticket wagon’’ atiracts a large erowd, ever eager for ‘‘something new.” A goodly number of tickets has been already sold; and ot ‘ers have been privately bought, and others again, - privately subscribed ¢to. Yet, it is our opinion, that if, instead of rounding one beaten track—the Main Street, with Market Square as the chief base of operations—other streets, the Garden for instance, were canvassed, that very healthy results would be ob- tained. The entertainment, novel in character is being held for the benefit of nativs institutions: hence. ail should contribute their quota. Os course there are some misgivings expressed in certain quarters, relative to’ admission on the first night. These misgivings, this spreading of rumours’ capabfe of handi- capping the good work co-templated, has originated, as may be expected, from irresponsible sources. Let us hope that our people, so known for their characteristic benevolence to strangers, will, now that it is needed, turn ‘their attention toward helping to alleviate the needs in their own home- land.—lbid. ' : The management of the Naval Circus _has obtained special permission to stage a Spanish bull fight in order that these who have never had am opportunity to view a per‘asmance of this, the national sport of‘Spain, may see here in St Thomas as a part of the Circus program. Each of the participants is an expert, the Matador being famous throughout all’ the lands in whierh this sport is known for his grace and agility and for the fact that no bull, however vicious, has yet bested him in a combat. The bull is a specially imported specimen of the finest breed of fightingbulls, and is extremely difficult to handle. His trip to St. Thom- as has made worse his already bad dis- position, and he will bea real test of the Matador’s ability. The bull will not be on exhibition for fear he might harm some innocent by-stander. Elaborate precautions have been taken to safe- guard the audience from harm.—llbid. In the law suit, Geo. A. Moorehead versus Rothschild- Francis for resort- ing to libellous attack in letter, in answer to request that sentence of previous decision be published, judge- ment was handed down on Monday morning, the 15th inst. by Judge Thiele in favour of the former, when Francis was sentenced to pay SIOO.OO fine, and ° cost of the court, besides $4.00 for non appearance at the Reconciling Courts, the fines to be collected 15 days after sente..ce had been served.—St Thomas Mail Notes Now. 19th. As one looks over the program of the Naval Circus, one is struck with the diversity of the attractions. An item that will be most interesting to the fol- lowers of sport isa prize fight for the - championship of the Carribean. The two aspirants, who have insisted that their names be not disclosed until the night of the contest, have their train- ing camps on nearby islands, where for a month past they have been working diligently preparing for the test -that will determire the better man. A large * purse has been set aside as the prize and-it has been agreed that the winner gets all. A famous ring of officials has been engaged as referee and other officials as professionals.
