Economic Development Authority, will host a charrette to initi- ate the development of a town plan for Upstreet on St. Thomas. Residents and owners of businesses and properties in Upstreet, along with the general public, are invited to the four-day charrette, which is a series of multi-disciplinary planning meetings. The charrette is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and will continue at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The meetings will take place at the Winston Raymo Recreation Center on St. Thomas. During the charrette, panelists, who are knowledgeable in various topics that affect community and area devel- opment, and the general public will come together to share their ideas, opinions, recommendations and possi- ble solutions to the problems that exist in the Upstreet neighborhood. A consensus of ideas and solutions for town problems will help initiate the development of the town plan for Upstreet. …

The meeting schedule is: • “Historical and Cultural Aspects of the Town,” 2:30 p.m. Saturday. • “Environmental Impacts and Infrastructural Challenges,” 5:30 p.m. Monday. • “Social Issues and Housing,” 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. • “Economic Development,” 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. VIRGIN ISLANDS Park lecture to allow buildings to talk Daily News Staff ST. CROIX — The National Park Service Lecture Series continues tonight with a discussion about Christiansted National Historic Site by David Goldstein, chief of Interpretation and Education for the three Park Service sites on St. Croix. “Each building has its individual life history,” Goldstein said, adding that those histories together com- prise the history of the Danish West Indies. “A lot of the way we see our landscape is kind of static. We don’t realize that each building has its individual life history,” he said. T h e t a l k w i l l t o u c h o n Christiansted National Historic Site, its development as a park unit, and how it came to be a National Park, according to the National Park Service. Goldstein’s talk, “Revisiting Christiansted: Development and Future Prospect,” will focus on the buildings at the National Historic Site as they became incorporated into the site and how the Virgin Islands government worked with the Secretary of the Interior’s office to protect them. The discussion also will touch on the archaeological remains on the site that have the potential for future development for interpretive purposes. Also during the lecture, the National Park Service will begin to take suggestions and comments from the public regarding expecta- tions for the coming 2017 obser- vance of the anniversary of the Transfer of the Danish West Indies to the United States. The lecture is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Danish Guinea West India Company Warehouse/Slave Market Building. The Christiansted National Historic Site parking lot will be free and open for this event until 7 p.m. Today-Friday No meetings.
