Start Twinsock by double clicking the icon you just made. Under Communications in the Setup menu, configure Twinsock with the following. Port Probably COM1 or COM2 Speed Your max speed up to 9600 Data bits Parity None Stop Bits Test your connection by typing ATA and listening for a dial tone. If you don’t hear a dial tone try a different COM port. Then slower speeds. (The maximum speed on UVI modems is 9600). Usual Instructions Note that this software and our phone lines are not perfect. You may have to repeat the following instructions a few times before you make it “in.” Once you’re in you may have to reconnect a few times. I find it works best to get in, get all my mail, detach, compose my replies and get in again. This is the most polite procedure as well since it leaves the port open for others. Dialing In Start Twinsock. Under the Setup menu choose Dial and call UVI at 693-1570. This number will be remembered between sessions - don’t forget to add 9 if on campus (or don’t use the 693). I’m told that putting “*70,” in front of your number turns off Call Waiting but it hasn’t worked for me. After a while you will see Connect 9600 (or whatever speed your modem is set at). Press the Enter key a few times and you will be prompted with a UVI-NET> prompt At the UVI-NET> prompt type GECKO. Log in by typing your account name, pressing enter, then typing your password (your password will not be displayed on the screen). After a short message, a prompt with your account name (i.e. cbalch@gecko>) will appear. At the prompt, type tshost. The Twinsock application should “disappear” (actually it is minimizing itself). You can now run any of the applications mentioned above. Quitting Press ALT-TAB until you see Twinsock. Select Diconnect from the Setup menu Type EXIT at your prompt Free your phone line unplugging it for a few seconds or by typing +++ then ATH after you are prompted by OK.
