Act No. 6292 (BILL NO. 23-0029) (Approved September 14, 1999) To amend Title 5, Section 4509, Virgin Islands Code, pertaining to the employment of prison inmates and for other related purposes Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: SECTION 1. Title 5, Section 4509, Virgin Islands Code, is deleted in its entirety, and a new Section 4509 is inserted in lieu thereof to read as follows: "Section 4509. Work by inmates and compensation. (a) The Bureau of Corrections may require of any able-bodied prisoner as many hours of faithful labor in each and every day during his term of imprisonment as shall be prescribed by the Attorney General. However, under no circumstances, nor at any time, shall a prisoner be required to work more than eight (8) hours per day. …
