MESSAGE FROM THE INSPECTOR GENERAL A we mark the 20" anniversary of the Inspector General Act this year, it is appropriate to reflect upon our accomplishments in achieving the purposes of the Act. As an organization whose statutory mission is to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse and promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in agency operations, we play a key role in creating an agency that "works better, costs less, and gets results Americans care about." We are committed to continually assessing our activities and focusing our efforts to ensure that, consistent with the Inspector General Act, the vital task of improving government operations is attained. I am pleased to report on several accomplishments that exemplify our success in fulfilling our statutory mission and strategic goals. …
