To the Honorable Chair of the Committee on Rules and the Judiciary, Good day, I hope this finds you well. I understand that Attorney Melanie Turnbull, Esq. is under consideration for Superior Court Judge in the Family Division. I write in my capacity as Criminal and Family Division Chief at the Virgin Islands Department of Justice— I support Attorney Turnbull entirely; I cannot think of a more excellent choice for the Territory. I foresee Attorney Turnbull as an inspired partner in helping to address the needs of young people in the community as a Family Court Judge. I first met Attorney Turnbull nearly a decade ago, in the trenches, while serving as an Assistant Attorney General, a line prosecutor before Hon. Presiding Judge M. Dunston. Attorney Turnbull was the Public Defender assigned in the courtroom. Turnbull is tenacious, brilliant on the law, and she possesses a temperament that will suit her well on the bench. At all times, Attorney Turnbull was ethical, well- prepared, poised, professional, and entirely passionate for the cause of justice. As her counterpart, we fought the legal issues hard, and always walked out of the courtroom as colleagues. Melanie is an excellent attorney. She is also an outstanding person. I consider Attorney Turnbull a colleague as well as a friend. We have babies of similar age; it has been a joy to see her family grow, and continue to give her perspective that again, will serve her so well on the bench. Melanie is the very best of a new generation of lawyers in the Territory; I strongly support her selection as a Superior Court Judge. It is a pleasure to see a professional of her quality be recognized and entrusted in this critical role for the Territory—she will be excellent. Looking forward to great things ahead. Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to share this strong endorsement of Judge Turnbull throughout the Committee. All respect, H Timothy Perry, Esq.
