SWORN IN AS SENATOR AT LARGE TO SERVE IN THE 34TH LEGISLATURE Published: Jul 25, 2022 Search for: ST. THOMAS – The 34th Legislature of the Virgin Islands, led by Senate President Donna A. Frett Gregory hosted the swearing in of Angel Bolques Jr., as the Senator-at-Large. The swearing in occurred today at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall. Senator Bolques will serve until the end of the 34 th Legislature. The swearing in followed the passage of Bill No. 34-0287 and a recommendation from the Territorial Committee of the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands. According to Virgin Islands Code, Title 2, Chapter 8, Section 111 (b), “ When the vacancy occurs within one year prior to the general election, the President of the Legislature, upon the written recommendation of the territorial committee of the political party of which the previous office holder was a candidate, shall appoint the person so recommended.    The Oath of Office was administered by Judge Kathleen Y. Mackay. The Supervisor of Elections, Caroline F. Fawkes was also present and duly confirmed the appointment of Senator-Designee Angel Bolques Jr.    Senate President Frett-Gregory stated that it was a pleasure to witness the swearing in and she commended the Territorial Committee of the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands for taking swift and decisive action with the appointment. Frett-Gregory further indicated that the Legislature moved quickly to ensure the St. John community is represented within the Legislature.    Senator Bolques offered thanks to the body for their confidence in him and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Senator-at-Large, which he called a blessing.   Senators present at the swearing in ceremony included Senate President Donna A. Frett Gregory, Marvin A. Blyden, Milton E. Potter, Janelle K. Sarauw, Carla J. Joseph, and Genevieve R.
