69 All students, regardless of their degree program and major field of study, must complete certain general education requirements. These do not include any requisite courses of skills remediation or freshman studies courses. The University of the Virgin Islands’ general education curriculum has been reformed and revitalized recently and is subject to continual refinement. The general education curriculum is intended to prepare students for today’s competitive world as well as for productive and ful- filling lives and responsible citizenship. Students completing these requirements are expected to have gained the following: • Knowledge of the history, geography, and demographic characteristics of the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, the United States, and the world. • Knowledge of natural phenomena and of the earth in its place in the universe as well as an appreciation of scientific inquiry. • Highly developed communication skills. • Quantitative and computing skills. • Personal health and wellness skills. • Critical thinking, logic, and moral reasoning skills. …

The University of the Virgin Islands’ general education curriculum has been reformed and revitalized recently and is subject to continual refinement. The general education curriculum is intended to prepare students for today’s competitive world as well as for productive and ful- filling lives and responsible citizenship. Students completing these requirements are expected to have gained the following: • Knowledge of the history, geography, and demographic characteristics of the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, the United States, and the world. • Knowledge of natural phenomena and of the earth in its place in the universe as well as an appreciation of scientific inquiry. • Highly developed communication skills. • Quantitative and computing skills. • Personal health and wellness skills. • Critical thinking, logic, and moral reasoning skills. • Self-awareness, interpersonal, leadership, and team skills. • Second language skills, multi-cultural and inter-cultural skills, and an understanding of aesthetic expression in literature and art. • Information management and research skills. General education requirements vary with degree programs but have the following categories in common: A. General Education Courses. These are specified for each degree program and include courses in: Humanities Mathematics Natural sciences Social sciences Physical education, fitness and wellness. The following exams are general education requirements: B. The English Proficiency Examination (EPE) — Please review its entry prerequisites on page 66. C.
