JOHN Published: Oct 14, 2025 Search for: or Immediate Release LEGISLATURE HOSTS TAXI ASSOCIATION TOWN HALL TO STRENGTHEN TRANSPORTATION AND TOURISM IN ST. JOHN ST. JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands — Members of the 36th Legislature of the Virgin Islands, chaired by Senator Angel L. Bolques, Jr. , convened at the Cleone H. Creque Conference Room to host a Taxi Association Town Hall Meeting centered on the enhancement of transportation services and the continued growth of the territory’s tourism industry. The meeting brought together taxi operators, government representatives, and community stakeholders to discuss strategic plans aimed at improving transportation efficiency, upgrading existing operations, and preparing for the expected rise in visitor arrivals. The agenda also included efforts to elevate customer service standards and expand payment options for passengers to provide a more seamless experience. Senator Bolques emphasized that collaboration among transportation professionals, local businesses, and residents is essential to shaping the future of tourism and mobility across the Virgin Islands. He reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of service providers and business owners are fully included in decisions that affect the island’s economic and tourism development. As tourism continues to expand, the steady increase in cruise ship visits is generating new opportunities for St. John. The surge in regional port activity is expected to bring greater demand for transfers, tours, and visitor services as more travelers seek to experience the island’s distinctive charm, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. From 2023 to 2025, St. John has recorded a notable rise in cruise passenger arrivals; from 5,514 to 8,450 to date; reflecting the island’s growing appeal as a premier destination within the Virgin Islands. The town hall concluded with a unified call to action to strengthen partnerships between the private and public sectors underscored its ongoing commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that foster sustainable transportation, promote tourism growth, and enhance the overall visitor experience throughout the Virgin Islands.
