Upon officers’ arrival at the scene, they were informed by members of Fire and Rescue that the male driver, was pinned on the driver’s side of the vehicle, but removed and taken to the Juan F. THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner AAF Justice Complex, 5400 Veterans Drive St. Thomas, 00802 * (340) 774-2211 Administrative Services Building 45 Mars Hill, Frederiksted St. Croix, 00840 * (340) 778-2211 www.vipd.vi.gov VIPD NEWS RELEASE - 100123-314 For Immediate Media Distribution October 1, 2023 Single Auto Collision in Rattan Leaves Man Seriously Injured, Traffic Investigation Bureau Investigates St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands - On October 1, 2023, at approximately 3:55 a.m., the Ancilmo Marshall Command Patrol Officers were notified by the 911 Emergency Call Center, to travel to Rattan Road, Route 74, to investigate a single automobile collision that occurred in the vicinity of Estate Rattan. Upon officers’ arrival at the scene, they were informed by members of Fire and Rescue that the male driver, was pinned on the driver’s side of the vehicle, but removed and taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital Emergency Room for Medical Treatment. The preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a 4-door black Ford Edge lost control of the vehicle, veered right, across the eastbound lane and struck a WAPA utility pole, and a huge white boulder that were both on the shoulder of the eastbound lane. The driver was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. During the preliminary investigation, there were approximately five firearms discovered in the vehicle. This matter is currently under investigation. The driver of the Ford Edge sustained multiple injuries to include a fractured pelvis, a broken rib, injuries to the left leg and hip joint, and suffered cuts and bruises about the body. The victim had a Blood Alcoholic Content (3.175) approximately three times over the legal limit. This case remains open and under investigation by the Virgin Island Police Department Traffic Investigation Bureau, St. Croix District. ###
