ACT NO.646 1 BILL NO. 24-0156 TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2001 To honor and commend Praxedes Nieves and to name a road in the east end area, Christiansted, St. Croix, the Praxedes Nieves Ridge Road ---0)--- WHEREAS, Praxedes Nieves was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico, on July 20". 1908, to Antonio Nieves and Anastacia Acosta; and WHEREAS, Praxedes Nieves received his primary education on the Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico; and WHEREAS, Praxedes Nieves, at the age of 20, moved to the Island of St. Croix where he worked as a laborer for several years; and WHEREAS, Praxedes Nieves is one of the Hispanic pioneers to migrate to St. Croix, Virgin Islands in the late 1920’s in search of a brighter future and a quest to better his life and that his family and that he has resided in Green Cay area since 1957; and WHEREAS, Praxedes Nieves has been married to Cecilia Torres for 67 years and produced ten children, of which seven are alive and residing on the island of St. …
