Communist wor- kers seized the city administration build ings in Hamburg today,then occupied the Biohm and Vo-s shipyards and hoisted the red flag, says a despatch from Ham- burg. Workers in other shipvards quit work and began organizing mass de- monstrations, according to the despatch. In Leipzig, Dresden, Rodewist h and other cities in central Germany, the commun- iais directed their efforts againsi court- houses, city halis, public buildings and police headquarters. A bomb exploded in Leipzig court house this morning and blew off the roof, broke all the windows wrecked the lobby, and shatterea the windows of buildings in a radius of two bloeks. I Rodcwisch, the city ha'l was virtually Cestroyed by a bomb which had been concealed in the basement. The use of dynamite azainst the city ad- ministration buildings in Auerbach, Frei- berg and Dresden -resulted in heavy property loss, and the wounding severely of at least 3 persons. Others were siight- ly injured. A 21 year old man was ar- rested in Auerbach with a sack of dyna- mite in his possession. A co..panion who fired at a policeman escaped. The man arrested said he was from Danzig, but aeclined to talk further. "he out- rages are helieved so be connected with the attempt of the communists to force a general strike. From Eisleben, 23 miles west of Halle, comes a mess- age which reports intermittent rifle firing on the stree's on Tuesday night, and that nand-gr2nades were explo- ding there this ioorning. It is said that reports from Hamburg at mid- night stated that the communists ever’ where were calling upon workers to fight behin barricades a~d the people were fortifyiog -their homes. New York, March 24:h. —Raw sugar was unchanged early today @btc. for Cuba’s cost and freight, equa to 6.27 for centrifugal. There were sales of 3,000 bags of Porto Rico’s and 3,000 tons of new crop Cuonas. Refined sugar was un- changed at 8.25 for fine granulated, ~ith one refiner out of the market. Futures were quiet and prices at midday were unchanged to 3 points lower. Newport News, March 24th.—Two British steamsh ps, the *‘Ottawa’’ and “‘Esperanza de Larrinega’’, which left Hampton Roads on February 2nd, are 35 days overdue in England. according to advices received here today. The steamers struck the FKebruary gale in which ' the ‘‘Bombadi-r’’ and another ship were lost. Hope has not been aban- doned entirely for the two ships, but British Maritime agents are requesting information concerning them. London, March 24th.
