Working with the senior executive team, she was responsible for communications and collaborative relationships with the community, governmental agencies, and media relations. Matarangas- King departed the organization on February 21, 2025. Throughout her 26-year tenure at Viya, Matarangas:King held several influential positions, demonstrating her exceptional leadership skills. She spearheaded the transformation of the U.S. Virgin Islands cable organization into the premier cable TV provider in the Territory. In January 2005, she was appointed President and General Manager of Innovative Cable TV, a role she excelled in until October 2010. Fram October 2001 until January 2005, she led the U.S. Virgin islands business offices, overseeing customer care for Innovative Telephone, Innovative Cable TV, Innovative Wireless, and Innovative Long Distance. Her journey with parent company Innovative Communication Corporation began in January 1999 as the project coordinator for all of Innovative’s Chief Operating Officers, where she served as the liaison to the !CC Board of Directors. The following year, she was promoted to Manager of Corporate Planning, a testament to her strategic thinking and dedication. Prior to joining Viya, she worked in the public sector. She first served as Press Secretary for Governor Roy L. Schneider and then as the Public Retations Director for Senator Vargrave Richards, the Vice President of the 22nd Legislature of the United States Virgin Isiands. public sector. Born and raised on St. Croix, Matarangas-King graduated from St. Dunstan's Episcopal School in 1987. She continued her education at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and graduated in May 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and double major in English Literature and Afro-American Studies. She received her Master of Arts degree in 1993 and completed course work for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organizational Communication from Howard University in Washington, D.C. At Smith College and Howard University she was honored on the College Dean's List, the National Dean's List and she was listed as an All-American Scholar. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America. In the past she served on the Board of Directors for The St. Croix Foundation for Community Development, Junior Achievement of the Virgin Islands, and the Advisory Board for Jobs for America’s Graduates.
