ACTNO, 8000 BILL NO. 32-0085 THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2017 An Act amending title 19 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 31, section 722 relating to mental health emergency commitments by extending the time a person may be detained for treatment w=-0--- Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: SECTION 1. Title 19 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 31. section 721 is amended in the first sentence of subsection (b) by striking “severely or violently mentally disturbed or to be incapacitated by drugs or alcohol” and inserting “suffering a mental disturbance, intoxicated, or under the influence of drugs. or in need of help and treatment and who, if not treated, has a substantial probability to suffer or continue to suffer abnormal mental, emotional, or physical harm that significantly impairs judgment, reason, or behavior”. SECTION 2. Title 19 Virgin Islands Code. chapter 31, section 722 is amended in the following instances: (a) Subsection (c) is amended by striking “forty-eight hours” and inserting “five days”. …
