UVI Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program Committee & Substance Abuse, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Prevention Program Celebrates Red Ribbon Week October 25‐29, 2010 THEME: “My Future is Bright, I’m Drug Free!” ACTIVITIES 1. Friday, October 22, 2010 Pre Red Ribbon Week HIV/AIDS Testing in the UVI Bookstore parking lot from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 2. Monday, October 25, 2010 Wear Red & Pledge against Drugs Day: Make a pledge to be drug free and collect a red ribbon token at the UVI Dining Pavilion or Classroom Administration Building (CAB) from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 3. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 Drug Free Decoration Day Contest (Best Decorated Area): Office and/or organizations are encouraged to decorate their respective area on campus. Judging is at 10:00 a.m. All decorated areas must comply with the theme. A trophy and prize will be given to the winner. To sign up please call or visit the Student Affairs Office at (340)693‐1120 or the Student Activities Center at (340) 693‐1111. 4. …

UVI Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program Committee &   Substance Abuse, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Prevention Program    Celebrates Red Ribbon Week   October 25‐29, 2010  THEME: “My Future is Bright, I’m Drug Free!”  ACTIVITIES  1. Tuesday, October 26, 2010  Drug Free Decoration Day Contest (Best Decorated Area): Office and/or organizations  are encouraged to decorate their respective area on campus. Judging is at 10:00 a.m. All  decorated areas must comply with the theme. A trophy and prize will be given to the  winner. To sign up please call or visit the Student Affairs Office at (340)693‐1120 or the  Student Activities Center at (340) 693‐1111.  4.  Wednesday, October 27, 2010  Walk/Rally & Speak Out Against Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention: Walk will begin  at the Lindberg Bay Police Station at 4:45 p.m. and end at the UVI Dining Pavilion.  Accompanying us on our walk will be AY Drum Corps, which will be leading the march.  Upon arrival at the Recreational Center (back of the golf course), there will be a brief  forum and an Open Mic. Contest on substance abuse and crime prevention.  The first  100 participants will receive a free t‐shirt.    Everyone is encouraged to “Speak Out” against substance abuse, violence, and HIV/AIDS  through artistic talent and Open Mic. setting. Participants can utilize creative outlet such  as song, dance, poetry, short skits, and musical instruments. All presentations should be  no more than (5) minutes and should reflect on one of following themes: drugs and  alcohol prevention, anti‐violence, or HIV/AIDS prevention. 1st Prize ‐ $250   and 2nd Prize ‐ $150. To sign up for the Open Mic. contest please contact the Student  Affairs Office at (340) 693‐1120/1121 or The Student Activities Center. Light  refreshments will be served.    5.  Thursday, October 28, 2010  Student Peer Educators (SPE) & Public Safety Presentation: The idea is to inform the  public about the effects of drugs/ violence and what they can do to avoid such.  The  presentation will be by LaVelle Campbell, a motivational speaker for at‐risk individuals in  crisis, and V.I. Police Lt. Alva Chesterfield. This will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00  p.m. in the Dining Pavilion.    6. Friday, October 29, 2010   “Weird” Costume Contest & Karaoke: Create your craziest and best red ribbon week  costume. The person who wins the drug free red outfit will receive $50.00 as their  reward. Karaoke will take place during the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Dining  Pavilion.  There will be a display of red light refreshments such as, red fruit punch, red  fruits, red cake, red cheese sandwiches, red sugar cookies, .red sexy sunrise drinks etc.  For the costume contest, please use good judgment.    This concludes Red Ribbon Week Activities    Thank you!    “Promoting Prevention in Paradise”  Funded by: SAMHSA/CSAP
