BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF TilE UNITED STATES: APROGLAMATION, FHERCAS, il eomes my painful duty i to announce to the people of the Viragin Isiands of the United States, that ithe Chiof Exccutive, WARREN G. HARDIN!:, President of the United States of America, devarted this life on Thursday, Auguet 2nd, 1923; AND WHEREAS, the President of the United States, CALVIN CUOOLIDGE, has directed that the Execuative Depart- menis of tne Federal Government of the United Sfates, be closed at one o’cloek, post meridian, on Taesday, August the 7th, and remain elosed throuzh FEFriday, August the 10th, 1923: and that a period of mourning be institured to expire at midaizht September the Sed, 1923; AND WHIEREAS, tae President of the United Staies has set apart Friday, Au- gust 10th, 1323, as a day of National Mourning and prayer foo the late Chief Executive; NOW, THEREFORE. 1. HENRY H. HOUGH, Governor of the Virgin Islands of the United States, hereby direct that all activities of the Government of the Vivarn Islands of the United States, except those necessary in the Public Welfare, be susvended between one o’clock, post meridian, on Tuesday, Au- gust tne Tch Land twelve midnight on Friday, Aucust the 10:th, 1923: that all offieial flags ha at h:]l mast on all public buildings, both nilitary and eivil, be- fween €ight o'cloek, anti meridian, and sunset euch day, rnrouch Monday, Sep- tember the 3rd, 1923; that all ofiicials, civil and military, connected wirth the Government of the Virgin Islands of the {lnited States, wear a badge of mourning on the left arm, midway between the shoulder:and the elbow, consisiiny of a band of bluek erepe, or other similor materiul, three inches wide; that no offi- cial enter'sinments by ofiicers of the United States be beld until December first, 1923: and that ap official service be hald at wie Marine Barrvacks, in the town of St. Thomas, Virgin lislands of the United states, at the hour ot eight thiriy, anti meridian, on Frivay, August 10th, 1923, which service ail are arged to at- tend for the purpos» of offering prayer for h repose of the Soul of the Great and Good President. 1 do further earnestly recommend that the p:ople of thie Virzin Istands cease their datly ogcupations on {'riday, Au- gust the lUth, 1923, to enable them to attend this oificial serviee and 0 congre- grate in their respective places of worship for such additiopnal serviees as may-be held therein, 3 S = ¥y I 5 .
