SOLAR ROOF STILL A double roof construction solar still to PROTOTYPE BUILT produce high quality potable water is opera- ting on St. Croix. Initial data show that production exceeds one gallon per day per 20 square feet of roof area. Further details on this experimental project will be released later. WATER USE PATTERN Research to determine water use patterns in STUDY IN PROGRESS the Virgin Islands is now underway at the WRRC. Principal investigators are Henry H. Smith, research associate, and Donald C, Bullock. One aspect of the study is to investigate quantitatively whether or not a high standard of living has been achieved and maintained in the V,I. with lower water consumption than would have been expected. Marsh, CRI assistant director, PUBLISHES, SPEAKS attended a Consortium on Research Training (CORT) Workshop in Atlanta on January 24-26, along with approximately 50 others working in the humanities and social sciences. On May 22-24, CORT will sponsor a Coordinator's Workshop on the St. Thomas Campus of CVI. For further information contact Marsh at 774-1252, ext. 249. : On January 29 Marsh conducted a grant proposal-writing workshop for CVI Student Affairs personnel. In the February issue of FIRE II, a literary journal published by the Department of African-American Studies at Trenton State College in New Jersey, a short story, essay and poem written by Dr. Marsh were published. His article "Rasta, Know Yourself," published in the March issue of the Virgin Islander magazine, was used by the social studies department of Wayne Aspinall Junior High School to instruct classes on how rastafari- anism fits into the current social scene of the Virgin Islands. In February Dr. Marsh discussed the project "Emancipation: A Second Look" on the Louise Noble Show on local radio station WVWI. The project, funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, offers a series of classes on seven topics, with two months being devoted to each topic. Classes are conducted on St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas, Persons interested in taking part in this project should contact the Enid M. Baa Library at 774-0630. JONES-HENDRICKSON DIS- The SRC coordinator participated in two events CUSSES REGIONAL ISSUES in conjunction with CVI's observance of Black History Month. A public panel discussion on “The Impact of the Grenada Revolution’ on the Caribbean" was held on February 18 at the St. Thomas Sheraton Hotel. In addition to him, panel- ists included: Alister Hughes, a Grenadian journalist, Dr. Olaf Hendricks, a St. Croix psychiatrist and Leslie Reovan, a CVI sociologist. In January Jones-Hendrickson traveled twice to St. Kitts to act in an advisory capacity to the government and private sector on fiscal and budgetary matters, Also this quarter he was chairman for one session of a panel discussion at the Virgin Isle Hotel on St, Thomas hosted by the Island Resources Foundation as part of Nutrition Week activities. In March he was a guest speaker on local radio station WSTA, He discussed the Virgin Islands economy, inflation and prospects for the 1980's. In addition, he spoke on "The Caribbean: A New Perspective" on the St. Croix Campus of CVI,
