THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner AAF Justice Complex, 5400 Veterans Drive St. Thomas, 00802 * (340) 774-2211 Administrative Services Building 45 Mars Hill, Frederiksted St. Croix, 00840 * (340) 778-2211 www.vipd.vi.gov VIPD NEWS RELEASE - 081323-258 For Immediate Media Distribution August 13, 2023 Discharging of Shots Leaves One Dead and One Injured in Golden Rock St. Croix, USVI - On August 12, 2023, at about 11:54 p.m. the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification from ShotSpotter of shots being fired in the Golden Rock area at G-Max Service Station. 911 then received calls regarding a gunshot victim at the service station. Upon the arrival of the officers, they found the body of a black male who appeared to be unresponsive. He was checked by Emergency Medical Technician who found no signs of life. The victim appeared to have succumbed to gunshot wounds about his body. Upon the arrival of the officers, they found the body of a black male who appeared to be unresponsive. He was checked by Emergency Medical Technician who found no signs of life. The victim appeared to have succumbed to gunshot wounds about his body. While additional units were responding to the incident at G-Max Service Station, officers were notified that there was a gunshot victim at John F. Kennedy Housing Community. Units responded and secured the location and discovered a firearm on scene. The victim was shot in the stomach and arm and was taken to Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance. The deceased at was identified by next of kin as Steadroy James. This Criminal Investigation Bureau is presently investigating this incident.
