There were 271,762 visitors compared to last January’s arrivals of 246,958. Air visitors grew by a solid 9.3 percent to 66,212 from 60,553 in January 2009. Cruise passenger arrivals rose a strong 10.3 percent to 205,550 from 186,405 a year ago. There were 81 cruise ship calls to the Territory this month, or 5 fewer calls than January 2009. Arrivals by District The St. Thomas and St. John district enjoyed another month of positive air visitor growth—up 4.7 percent to 51,997 compared to 49,661 in January 2009. There were 195,003 cruise passengers visiting the district or 5.8 percent more than last January. St. Croix tourism industry continues to rebound as evident from the growth in visitor arrivals observed over the past several months. …
